Greetings to all! This is my first blog post for the Firehose Project, an online coding bootcamp. I’m a little more than halfway through the coursework, but due to a busy schedule, I’ve only been able to set up a blog and write now. Better late than never!
I joined the Firehose Project to immerse myself in learning critical skills in an age where many aspects of everyday life are migrating to the internet. Coding skills are obviously in demand today, even for jobs that are not ostensibly coding- or programming-focused. I live in the SF Bay Area, where innovation is ubiquitous and where most people I know are in the tech world, and I wanted to know more about a field that is such a significant part of life here. I also get a big kick out of fixing computer issues for my family members, and I’m aiming to solidify my reputation as the “tech girl” of the family.

This my coding buddy/rubber duckie, Sylvan. He can’t always give me the kind of coding feedback I’m looking for, but he’s a good listener.
Coding is a 180-degree shift from what I have done so far, and the change can be intimidating. However, the experience of solving challenges is incredibly rewarding, and I’m hoping to finish with solid marketable skills.
As of this writing, I have completed Splurty and Nomster and am currently working on Flixter.
